SHAPE Skate Drive Donations and HU Postcards Made It To Kenya!

Just this past week, the donations that SHAPE collected through its Annual Kenya Skate Drive officially landed in Nairobi and were distributed amongst the many skateboarders at Shangilia Children’s Home and Skatepark.

In December of 2025, SHAPE coordinated with six local skateshops (Cardinal Skateshop, Embark Skateshop, Fairfax Surf Shop, Hardtimes Skateshop, Sister Skateshop, & Charmcity Skateshop) in the DMV to collect donations of used and new skate gear to be packaged and shipped to Shangilia Children’s Home, an orphanage in Nairobi that is home to Kenya’s only skatepark. We are happy to announce that all 372 pounds of goods, valued at over $5,000 have arrived successfully to our partner organizations in Kenya, She Skates Kenya and Skateboarding Society of Kenya and have been distributed to skaters in the rapidly growing scene!

Additionally, SHAPE collaborated with Howard University Skate Club in Washington, D.C. to make handpainted postcards that were also sent to Shangilia and handed out to the children there! We hope that this gesture not only motivates the children to keep skating and to feel connected to the global skateboarding community, but also acts as the beginning of a penpal program between the skaters in the HU Skate Club and the skaters who attend Shangilia Children’s Home and Skatepark.
