We’re excited to announce that we’ve teamed up with two skate organizations based in Nigeria, Plus 2.34 and GoSkate Nigeria to create boards as giveaways for this year’s Go Skate Day!
GoSkate Nigeria, of Abuja, and Plus 2.34, of Port Harcourt, are two of the main skateboarding collectives that are holding it down for the Nigerian skate scene right now, so we wanted to show some love and support by collaborating on some deck graphics with them for Go Skate Day.
The graphic for Go Skate Nigeria’s boards is titled “Peace, Love, & Unity”. Inspired by the themes of “Peace and Unity” present in Nigeria’s national anthem, the board represents SHAPE Skate Foundation and GoSkate Nigeria’s ultimate goal: building Abuja’s very first skatepark. We believe that skateparks are powerful places that unity people from all walks of life, free of hate and full of community.
Our collaboration with Port Harcourt’s Plus 2.34 crew is dedicated to the late Major Isaac Adaka Boro, who was a revolutionary soldier and minority rights activist that led the 12-Day Revolution in 1966. The board’s graphic features a photo of a statue of Isaak Boro in Port Harcourt. By merging skateboarding culture with rich Nigerian history, we hope to inspire the next generation to stand strong, dream big, and continue to push forward.
Shout out to the Abuja and Port Harcourt skate scenes holding it down today!
